After being unable to finish the season-opening
Hornet-Red Devil Invitational because of dehydration,
senior Pete Richard is returning to the front of the
Hinsdale Central cross country team's pack.
Richard contributed one of three top-10 finishes for the
Red Devils on Saturday as they finished third at Oak
Park's Roy Gummerson Invitational at Schiller Woods. The
Red Devils (71 points) were just behind Buffalo Grove
(65) and Prospect (69) after sharing last year's invite
title with Warren.
The Red Devils' Thomas Fielder (15 minutes, 36 seconds
for 3.0 miles) finished second to Warren's Karsen Green
(15:29). Richard (16:00) and Doug Moore (16:16) were
fourth and seventh, followed by Robin Kalsbeek (13th,
16:30), Andrew Silk (46th, 17:36) and Pat Miller (61st,
18:13).
"(Richard) moved up the entire way," Hinsdale Central
coach Jim Westphal said. "We had Robin, Pete and Doug
running as a group the first mile, mile and a half. Pete
responded real well to that. I think that's kind of a
confidence booster for him and hopefully he'll continue
to make those continuous gains."
In West Suburban Conference Silver Division dual action
Sept. 20, the Red Devils beat Glenbard West 20-35 while
losing to No. 2-rated York 17-46 in Elmhurst. Fielder
(4th, 14:31.6 for 2.83 miles) and Richard (12th,
15:10.2) were the only non-York finishers among the top
14. Moore (15th, 15:21.1), Kalsbeek (16th, 15:25.9) and
Silk (27th, 16:25.4) rounded out the top five for the
Red Devils (1-2 in Silver), followed by Jordan Weed
(35th, 16:53.1) and Eric Olson (36th, 16:53.9).
